WHEN YOU BELIEVE ~ BY MARIAH CAREY AND WHITNEY HOUSTON

"When You Believe" is an Academy Award-winning song composed by Stephen Schwartz for the 1998 DreamWorks animated feature The Prince of Egypt. A pop version of "When You Believe" was produced as a single with additional music by writer-producer Babyface for the film's soundtrack album. It was the main theme of the film and was released as a single by American singers Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey as the soundtrack's first single in 1998; it was also the first single from Houston's album My Love Is Your Love and the second from Carey's compilation album #1's. Years of media speculation of a feud between Carey and Houston led to expectations that a duet would be a great hit and break many chart records, especially as Carey and Houston were successive record-holders for a single with the most weeks at number one. "When You Believe" was a hit, although it didn't make the top ten; rising as high as number 15 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. It fitted a trend of Carey singles at the time, peaking at 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay, but at 7 on the Hot 100 Single Sales.

Carey told Ebony magazine that the song "represents everything in my life" and "is a song from the heart." According to her, its lyrics are based on personal struggles she experienced when was younger, including her parents' divorce, moving frequently and the attitudes of the people in her neighborhoods to her ethnicity. The song was nominated for three 1991 Grammy Awards: Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (which it won), Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The song received the Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Single, Female and a Songwriter Award at the BMI Pop Awards.

OPEN ARMS ~ BY MARIAH CAREY

Mariah Carey co-produced her cover of the song with Walter Afanasieff for her fifth album, Daydream. Carey's career has crossed paths with Journey's: the band's drummer Steve Smith played drums on many of her earlier singles, and its bassist for a short period in the mid-1980s, Randy Jackson, has worked with her for a long time. It was released as the album's third single in 1996 in most markets outside the United States, and performed moderately. It became a top five hit in the United Kingdom, one of only a handful of countries that the song reached the top ten. The single's music video, directed by Larry Jordan, is a live performance of the song by Carey at Madison Square Garden. The video for the Spanish version of the song, "El Amor Que Soñé", is also a live performance from that night.

MY ALL ~ BY MARIAH CAREY

"My All" is a song written by American singer Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff for Carey's seventh album, Butterfly (1997). "My All" at the time set a record, giving Carey her thirteenth number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the most by any female recording artist. "My All" ranks among one of Carey's most remixed tracks, and two maxi-singles were released in the U.S. The main R&B remix of this single is the So So Def remix, which features re-recorded vocals by Carey.

It did not make much of an impact elsewhere, becoming a moderate top twenty hit in Australia, and top forty hit in the UK and the Netherlands, but failed to reach the top forty in Germany.

EMOTIONS ~ BY MARIAH CAREY

"Emotions" is a song written and produced by Mariah Carey, and David Cole and Robert Clivillés of the C+C Music Factory, and recorded for Carey's second album Emotions (1991). This disco-influenced song has its protagonist going through a variety of emotions, from high to low, up to the point where she declares "you got me feeling emotions" and sings high notes. "Emotions" is disco-influenced pop song and it is written in the key of C major. Carey usually prefers to transpose the key to B♭ major when performing live. arey's vocal range spans more than four octaves on the track, from C3 to E7. The song tested and challenged Carey's vocal range which in critics doubted about her voice. This is the first song on which Carey has encountered many high notes to execute and it starts on a falsetto note followed by a belted note. This is one of the reasons why many singers who try to emulate her vocal technique may use an incorrect vocal techinque. The sheet music of the song has a 8va marking on the last part of the song.

"BLACK OR WHITE"

I Took My Baby
On A Saturday Bang
Boy Is That Girl With You
Yes We're One And The Same

Now I Believe In Miracles
And A Miracle
Has Happened Tonight

But, If
You're Thinkin'
About My Baby
It Don't Matter If You're
Black Or White

They Print My Message
In The Saturday Sun
I Had To Tell Them
I Ain't Second To None

And I Told About Equality
An It's True
Either You're Wrong
Or You're Right

But, If
You're Thinkin'
About My Baby
It Don't Matter If You're
Black Or White

I Am Tired Of This Devil
I Am Tired Of This Stuff
I Am Tired Of This Business
Sew When The
Going Gets Rough
I Ain't Scared Of
Your Brother
I Ain't Scared Of No Sheets
I Ain't Scare Of Nobody
Girl When The
Goin' Gets Mean

[L. T. B. Rap Performance]
Protection
For Gangs, Clubs
And Nations
Causing Grief In
Human Relations
It's A Turf War
On A Global Scale
I'd Rather Hear Both Sides
Of The Tale
See, It's Not About Races
Just Places
Faces
Where Your Blood
Comes From
Is Where Your Space Is
I've Seen The Bright
Get Duller
I'm Not Going To Spend
My Life Being A Color

[Michael]
Don't Tell Me You Agree With Me
When I Saw You Kicking Dirt In My Eye

But, If
You're Thinkin' About My Baby
It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White

I Said If
You're Thinkin' Of
Being My Baby
It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White

I Said If
You're Thinkin' Of
Being My Brother
It Don't Matter If You're
Black Or White

Ooh, Ooh
Yea, Yea, Yea Now
Ooh, Ooh
Yea, Yea, Yea Now

It's Black, It's White
It's Tough For You
To Get By
It's Black , It's White, Whoo

It's Black, It's White
It's Tough For You
To Get By
It's Black , It's White, Whoo
