(YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE A) NATURAL WOMAN ~ CELINE DION

"(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman" was released as a promotional single by Céline Dion on October 23, 1995 in the United States, Canada and Australia. It was featured on a tribute album to Carole King, called Tapestry Revisited from October 24, 1995. Later, Céline Dion included this track on most versions of her 1996 album Falling into You. The track was produced by David Foster. Although there was no music video made, Dion's version enjoyed a moderate success on the adult contemporary charts, reaching number 9 in Canada and number 31 in the United States. In 2008, the song was featured on the U.S. version of My Love: Ultimate Essential Collection.

On April 14, 1998, Céline Dion, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Shania Twain, Gloria Estefan and Carole King performed during a VH1 Divas concert at the Beacon Theatre, New York. The five vocalists were recruited by the cable music network VH1 to raise money for Save the Music, their education charity. Hyped extensively in the press, the event was a ratings' winner for VH1 - so successful, in fact, that the network arranged to have the concert released on disc and tape on October 6, 1998. At that time "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" (performed by all divas) was released as a radio single around the world.

YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND ~ JAMES TAYLOR

*****************************
Grammy Song Of the Year 1972
*****************************

"You've Got a Friend" is a song from 1971. The song, written by Carole King, was included in her album Tapestry of 1971, but was made famous by James Taylor's cover version the same year. Taylor's rendition, released as a single from his own 1971 album Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon, reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 4 on the UK Singles Chart. The James Taylor version also spent one week at the top of the Easy Listening charts . "You've Got a Friend" won Grammy Awards both for Taylor (Best Male Pop Vocal Performance) and King (Song of the Year). The song was recorded also during 1971 by Dusty Springfield, a recording that predates Taylor's version. It was recorded for her third album for Atlantic Records, but a dispute with the company meant the album was unreleased. The song was left unissued until 1999, when it was issued as a bonus track for the Rhino Records deluxe re-release of Dusty in Memphis. "You've Got a Friend" was performed by Céline Dion, Shania Twain, Gloria Estefan, and Carole King at the VH1 Divas Live concert on April 14, 1998. The event took place in New York City's Beacon Theatre. The entire concert was released on CD and DVD on October 6, 1998. Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin also participated with this event

COATS OF MANY COLORS ~ DOLLY PARTON

**************************
Bluedreamer's Choice No 17
**************************

"Coat of Many Colors" is a song by Dolly Parton, which she has described on numerous occasions as her favorite of the songs she has written. She composed the song in 1969, while traveling with Porter Wagoner on a tour bus. (She explained in her 1994 memoire, "My Life and Other Unfinished Business", because she could find no paper, as the song came to her, she wrote it on the back of a dry cleaning receipt from one of Wagoner's suits; when the song became a hit, Wagoner had the receipt framed.) She recorded the song in April 1971, making it the title song for her Coat of Many Colors album. Released as single in August 1971, the song reached #4 on the U.S. country singles charts. The song tells of how Parton's mother stitched together a coat for her daughter out of rags given to the family. As she sewed, she told her child the biblical story of Joseph and his Coat of Many Colors. The excited child, "with patches on my britches and holes in both my shoes," rushed to school, "just to find the others laughing and making fun of me" for wearing a coat made of rags. Shania Twain recorded a cover version of the song on the 2003 Parton tribute album Just Because I'm a Woman: Songs of Dolly Parton, with accompaniment by Alison Krauss and Union Station. In 2008, Kristy Lee Cook performed this song on American Idol (season 7) during Dolly Parton week.
